When Will You Receive Your Medicare Card?

Learn when Medicare sends your card, what appears on it, how to print an official copy, and how to protect or replace your Medicare number.

Medicare details can change.

Enrollment dates, plan availability, benefits, costs, and rules may be updated. Confirm current information at Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE.

After you are enrolled in Medicare, Medicare mails your card in a welcome packet. The exact arrival date depends on when and how your enrollment is completed, so avoid relying on an unofficial fixed number of weeks.

What your Medicare card shows

Your card lists your unique Medicare number, whether you have Part A, Part B, or both, and the date each coverage begins. Your Medicare number is not your Social Security number.

If you need a card now

You can sign in to your secure Medicare account to print an official copy. If the card was not delivered, lost, stolen, or damaged, use your Medicare account or contact 1-800-MEDICARE. Railroad Retirement Board beneficiaries should follow the Railroad Retirement Board's replacement process.

Protect your Medicare number

Treat it like a credit card number. Share it only with trusted health care providers, insurers, plans, licensed agents or brokers, or authorized people helping with Medicare. Do not enter a Medicare number in this website's general contact form.
